Jazz on the Move at NPL: 100th Birthday Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald
On Sunday, November 5 at 3:00 pm, the Nashville Jazz Workshop and the Nashville Public Library present a special edition of the popular Jazz on the Move series. The program is an encore presentation in honor of Ella Fitzgerald, celebrating what would have been her 100th birthday. The featured artist is vocalist Sandra Dudley. Sandra will be joined by Lori Mechem (piano), Roger Spencer (bass), and Derrek Phillips (drums)
Each installment of Jazz on the Move features a lecture and performance highlighting a major figure or period in jazz history. Presented by Nashville’s top jazz artist/educators, the series offers audiences world class music as well as an opportunity to learn more about jazz.
The program, first presented in 2010 and titled "To Ella With Love," celebrates the life and music of the "First Lady of Song." Ella Fitzgerald was a consummate jazz artist who went on to become an icon of American popular culture whose appeal was universal. Her recorded output was prodigious, and her "Songbooks" were a virtual encyclopedia of jazz and popular music.
This year's series is presented with support from Caterpillar Financial Services and Peter and Anne Neff.
The program is at 3:00 pm in the auditorium of the Downtown Nashville Public Library, 615 Church Street. Admission is free and the public is invited.
