A three-day long, intensive workshop in jazz for students of all instruments, 12-18. Students enrolled in NJW Jazz Set 2022 studied jazz styles, theory, improvisation, listening, and of course, playing in jazz combos. A swinging concert closed the event, with some great playing all around!
June 7-9 Summer Jazz Set I – Intermediate to Advanced
- Schedule: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm each day
- Concert: 4:00 pm on final day
- Location: Nashville Jazz Workshop, 1012 Buchanan St., Nashville, TN
- Faculty: Lori Mechem, Roger Spencer, Richard Ripani, and a daily guest artist/clinician
- Tuition: $225, to be paid after official acceptance into program
Student auditions are required for acceptance into the program. A maximum of 20 students will be accepted into each week of the program.
Students registering online for NJW Jazz Set 2022 will receive instructions and a link to audition materials after filling out the registration form. Students will then submit a video audition for evaluation. Individuals officially accepted into the program will then receive payment instructions.
The Summer Jazz Set is accepting a maximum of 20 students this year, and we expect to fill all positions no later than April 20, 2022. All auditions will be evaluated as soon as they are received, and students will be accepted on a first come basis.
Please submit your video audition as soon as possible in order to have the best chance of getting accepted.
Students accepted to the NJW Summer Jazz Set 2022 will be notified and receive a link for payment. Payment should be submitted within 72 hours of acceptance.
AUDITION VIDEO
The NJW Summer Jazz Set 2022 audition requires a video performance of a piece of music that contains two contrasting styles. Each style has a written section and a short, improvised section.The written portions will count as 75% of your total score, the improvised will count as 25%.You are NOT required to improvise “on-the-spot.” It is acceptable to “work up” solos to fit those spots in the music.
