Jeff Hamilton and Chester Thompson Master Classes

Beginning on Saturday May 15th, the Nashville Jazz Workshop will host monthly master classes by local and national jazz artists. These Saturday morning and afternoon workshops, will consist of two 90-minute classes focusing on a specific instrument or voice. Topics may include technique, styles, improvisation, musicianship, composition and theory. REGISTRATION CLOSED

Individual master classes are $50 per course. Register for both master classes for $85. Register by May 14th at 5pm CDT

Drum Master Classes Saturday, May 15th

10am to 11:30am Chester Thompson “Creative Approach to Jazz Drumset Styles”
“Imagination is more important than Knowledge” Einstein

Chester has been a driving force in the jazz scene in Nashville for nearly 25 years. He has served on the NJW faculty as well as a board member since the very beginning of the organization. He has performed and recorded with artists such as Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Jack McDuff, George Duke, Phil Collins, Genesis, just to name a few. Join Chester for an in depth study of how to be creative with jazz styles at the drumset. Many artists will want a
certain feeling in a song that a chart will never display. Chester will discuss how to create the scenery of the song and how to tell the story.

1pm to 2:30pm Jeff Hamilton “The Art of Brushwork”

We are excited to have Jeff Hamilton teach one of the many techniques that has made him famous….brushwork! Jeff has performed and recorded with artists such as Woody Herman, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander, Gene Harris, Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Krall, just to name a few. Join Jeff for a 90 minute seminar on The Art of Brushwork. He will talk and demonstrate about sound, brush strokes, dynamics, hand positions and more.
