Expanding Your Blues Repertoire

Have you ever been on the band stand and want to call a blues tune, but feel like you always play the same two or three heads? Have you ever been on a gig and a blues tune gets called in a key you’re not familiar with? Want to expand your blues repertoire and get new ideas on how to improvise over blues changes? If your answer is yes, then this is the class for you. We’ll be covering several standard blues heads such as Blue Monk, All Blues, Tenor Madness, Straight No Chaser, and many others. We’ll be learning the melodies in multiple keys and tempos, and exploring different ways to improvise from using basic language up to more advanced approaches. And the end of the session, you’ll have a larger catalog of blues melodies to play on gigs, a more complete understanding of improvising over the blues, and much more.
