Hammond Heroes

For many years the legacy of the Hammond organ has been lauded by fans and practitioners of improvisational music. 
During the years 1956-1970, this sound gained new listeners for the music based on the soul and invention of players like Jimmy Smith, Don Patterson, Shirley Scott, Larry Young and Dr. Lonnie Smith. We’ll examine these players and more, along with the roots of the sound and what makes the expression popular with many listeners then and now.
