Songs You Thought You Knew
A note from instructor Roger Spencer:
From years of working with a wide variety of artists in the music business, I’ve come to realize that many performers have somewhat different ideas about melodies and chord changes to standard and Jazz standard tunes. For some time I have been collecting and analyzing these differences.
We’ll play recorded examples, show lead sheets, and discuss the composer’s original concept, then discuss the alterations that have, to some degree, become standard practice.
My concept is: You have to know the rules before you break the rules. If you know how the song was composed, it will give you insight into how and why some artists interpret these songs.
Join me online to share songs and discussion and I believe you will come away with a new insight into Songs You Thought You Knew.
