Grammy-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum returns to the Jazz Cave Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11. He’s here for two evening concerts and a Saturday morning master class for young musicians. Make plans for an unforgettable weekend of soulful music!

Enjoy an evening of the finest contemporary jazz anywhere. If you’ve heard Kirk’s legendary solo on Whitney Houston’s “I will Always Love You” you know what we mean. It’s Smooth Jazz with a big helping of Memphis Soul from a Texas Tenor! For this evening performance Kirk will be joined by members of his international touring band: Garry Goin (guitar), Jackie Clark (bass), Marcus Finnie (drums), & John Stoddart (piano).

SATURDAY, MARCH 11, 7:30PM KIRK WHALUM W/ THE LORI MECHEM TRIO

Kirk has always had a love of straight-ahead Jazz, dating back to his time in Texas as a student of the great Arnett Cobb. His virtuosity will be on display Saturday evening along with Lori Mechem, (piano) Roger Spencer (bass), and Marcus Finnie (drums).

SATURDAY, MARCH 11, 10AM MASTER CLASS FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS

Besides being a great musician, Kirk is an eloquent and inspiring teacher. This Master Class on “How to Play With Soul and Solid Technique” is for all middle school, high school, and college musicians – all instruments and vocalists.
