Jam Session: September
Not your average jam session
We’re excited to bring back the Nashville Jazz Workshop jam session with a fun new twist! This is a curated jam session for musicians of all levels, beginner to pro. We will post a list of compositions to be performed at the jam session each month. Performers will sign up at the venue for specific tunes.
This is not a typical jam session “performance” – there will be the option to stop, restart, discuss, and consider intros, endings, and stylistic choices. It takes place Sunday, September 17th, from 5-7 pm, in the Jazz Cave. Monica Shriver will be hosting this Jam Sessions. She will be accompanied by Mark Christian on guitar, Sofia Goodman on drums, and Roger Spencer on bass. Doors open at 4:30.
These tunes will be done in the specified key:
Airegin (Ab)
Au Privave (F)
Bluesette (Bb)
Night Has a Thousand Eyes (G)
Triste (Bb)
These tunes can be done in different keys if charts are provided by the person sitting in. Otherwise, they will be done in the standard real book key:
Blues in the Closet
I’m a Fool to Want You
Out of Nowhere
So What
You’ve Changed
The new NJW Jam Session series is partially supported through a gift from the Carolyn Kulkin Fund for Education and Community.
There is a suggested donation of $10 for this event to cover additional expenses.
The Nashville Jazz Workshop has soft drinks available for purchase. All other food and beverages are BYO.
The NJW Jam Session is a community event. Taking place once a month, the popular session is a fertile ground for the large contingent of great jazz players and enthusiasts in Middle Tennessee. Geared for all levels of performers – professionals, serious students of jazz, and those who love to listen, – this jam session is a chance for players to hear each other, meet, and collaborate. The NJW Jam Session is an open forum, so we encourage listeners to ask questions.
