NJW In Review: January 2, 2020

Happy New Year from the Nashville Jazz Workshop! Here at NJW we’re getting ready to move out of our Neuhoff space into a temporary location on Elm Hill Pike, until the new Buchanan Street facility is ready to move in. Visit our website for details about the Elm Hill location and the schedule of classes, starting January 20.

Meanwhile, we’ll continue to review some of the best performances of 2019 along with some instructional tips.

Today’s feature is Blue Note vocalist Kandace Springs, an NJW alum! The video is from her September 24 Jazz Cave appearance. Here she performs the Antonio Carlos Jobim classic “How Insensitive” as an uptempo samba. Kandace is featured on vocals and Rhodes piano, with Lori Mechem (piano), Roger Spencer (bass), and Chester Thompson (drums).

Continuing the Brazilian theme, here’s NJW co-founder and Director of Education Lori Mechem with an instructional tip for pianists on how to play Bossa Nova!
