Spotlight Thursday: Vail and the Fusion Kings

Vail and the Fusion Kings In Concert at the Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Bandleader and bassist Vail Johnson is joined by Hans Zermuehlen (keys), Karl Wingruber (saxes), and Bruce Guttridge (drums) with special guest Weather Report drummer Chester Thompson.

The band takes the stage at 7:30pm CST (Doors at 7:00pm).

Bassist Vail Johnson returns to the Nashville Jazz Workshop stage with a great band, The Fusion Kings, and an exciting program of jazz fusion featuring classics from the likes of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Weather Report, and Return to Forever. Besides being a great bassist Vail is also an engaging, high-energy performer – an evening with Vail is always fun! He previously appeared at NJW in a one-man show that brought down the house. Now he’s back, and with a full band of seasoned performers steeped in the idiom.

Vail has performed with such luminaries as Herbie Hancock, Ken Mo’, George Benson, and many others, not to mention his 30+ years as Kenny G’s bassist. Vail is a great supporter of jazz in all its forms and we’re delighted to have him back. Whether you’re already familiar with Vail’s work or are just discovering him, you’re in for a treat!
